Mark Barnebey, land use, local government, and real estate attorney, will be presenting “Practical Issue in Planning” to faculty and students at Florida State University’s Urban & Regional Planning department on Thursday, September29, 2016. Mark will focus on the possible legal issues in the land use process.
Mark earned his Bachelor in Science, Masters of Science in Planning and Juris Doctor degrees from Florida State University.
The Florida State University Department of Urban and Regional Planning (DURP) is Florida’s oldest and largest graduate planning program. Founded in 1965, DURP has been a leader in planning education for decades and shaped planning practice in a state internationally known for innovations in the areas of comprehensive planning, emergency management, land conservation, urban design, public health, and the transportation-land use nexus.
Mark has practiced in land use and local government law for the past thirty (30) years. He has successfully represented clients regarding a wide variety of development projects including multi-use projects, an arena, and a power plant. He served as the senior land use attorney for Manatee County for 13 years and as School Board Attorney or special counsel for another 12 years. He currently serves as City Attorney for the City of Palmetto, and counsel for several special districts and agencies. He is Florida Board Certified in City, County and Local Government Law.
