Bradenton, FL – The Young Lawyers Division of the Manatee County Bar Association is proud to present its Team-Up with Teachers program to include a teacher school supplies drive, a legal resource showcase, and on-going partnerships in schools. The main goals of the program are to provide teachers with much needed supplies, open doors to new educational opportunities for their students that they can incorporate into lesson plans, and establish long-lasting connections between members of the teaching profession and the legal profession.

Project Chairs Andrew Boyer of Boyer & Jackson, P.A. and Jennifer Cowan of Lewis, Longman and Walker, P.A. secured approvals and initiated contact with local K-12 schools, including charter schools, to determine the need for type and quantity of school supplies and educational materials. Once a school’s wish list was assembled, members of the committee solicited local law firms and businesses to secure the supplies. In addition, the Young Lawyers Division will host a school supply drive at the Manatee County Bar Association’s Annual Meeting.

The showcase is set for August 15 in conjunction with the Manatee Education Foundation’s Ready for School Rally 2012 at Manatee High School. Local lawyers and judges will be on hand to distribute the teaching supplies in preparation for the new school year and promote resources by the legal community including the Florida Supreme Court’s Justice Teaching program, Law Day events, and volunteer attorney availability for in-classroom lectures. Other local educational resource groups such as area museums, libraries and Mote Marine Laboratory are also invited making this a one-of-a-kind showcase for the Manatee County School District.

“The program is an excellent opportunity for the community to see how lawyers choose to give back,” said Fred Moore, principal attorney at Blalock Walters, P.A., and board member of the Manatee County Bar Association. “Attorneys will be donating their time and knowledge not only at the event but also later in a support role in the classroom by promoting projects such as Justice Teaching and connecting with students directly so they have a better understanding of the role of lawyers and judicial officers.”
