PRESS RELEASE – Sarasota-Bradenton, August 18, 2020 – Real estate attorney Timothy S. Shaw of Sarasota law firm Blalock Walters has been elected as the 2020-2021 chair of The Florida Bar Solo & Small Firm Section, a 2,000-member, statewide, voluntary organization that provides continuing legal education, networking opportunities and resources to benefit solo and small firm lawyers.
Shaw previously served as chair of the section in 1996-1997 and has been a member of the Executive Council since 1990. As chair, he oversees the section’s executive council, operations, budgeting, committees, continuing legal education seminars and member networking events. He is the section’s representative to The Florida Bar Council of Sections.
Shaw is a principal in the Blalock Walters real estate practice group and his practice involves all aspects of real estate and financial institution transactions. He has nearly 40 years of experience and expertise in the Sarasota and Bradenton area markets. He is board certified in real estate law by The Florida Bar. He has earned a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent® peer review rating, given only to attorneys who are ranked by their peers at the highest level of professional excellence for their legal expertise, communication skills and ethical standards. Shaw has served on boards of directors for numerous civic and business organizations including the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce, Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center and InStride Therapy. He is a member of The Florida Bar, the American Bar Association and the Sarasota County Bar Association.
The Florida Bar Solo & Small Firm Section’s mission is to “enhance the quality of practice for the solo and small firm lawyer as well as the lawyer who has interests beyond the bounds of a single professional specialty.” According to Shaw, the importance of solos and small firms to the legal profession and to society cannot be overestimated.

Shaw earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, magna cum laude, from Salisbury State College in 1978. He earned a Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from Stetson University in 1981 and was a Charles Dana Scholar in recognition of superior academic achievement and demonstrated leadership in the college community.
